Inaugural meeting of the Specilaized Technical Group– Migration of the SHaSA 2 Tunis-Tunisia

The inaugural meeting of the Specialized Technical Group (STG) – Migration of the SHaSA 2, was held in Tunis, Tunisia from 13th November to 15th November 2019.

 

The meeting was organized by the African Union Commission in collaboration with Statistics Sweden and International Organization for Migration Global Migration Data Analysis Center (IOM – GMDAC). The aim of the meeting was to consider the Terms of reference, adopt the action plan and ignite dialogue on how to coordinate and implement the various migration projects in Africa.

 

The objectives of the meeting were to:

  • approve the terms of reference of the Working Group,

  • adopt the Action Plan for the Production and Harmonization of Migration Statistics in Africa

  • discuss on the possibility of developing a standard questionnaire for migration surveys in Africa;

  • discuss draft 0 on the Global Compact's list of indicators for safe, orderly and regular migration;

  • exchange on the establishment of a data portal on migration in Africa;

  • validate the SHASA2 – STG report for the Committee of Directors Generals of National Institutes of Statistics (CoDGs) meeting.

 

The meeting was attended by the following AU member states: Botswana, Cameroon, Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Senegal, Somalia, Tunisia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
