Strengthening Mauritania's trade statistics: fruitful technical assistance mission on Eurotrace.
The National Agency for Statistics, Demographic and Economic Analysis of Mauritania(ANSADE) completed a critical training and technical assistance mission to enhance the compilation of international merchandise trade statistics using the Eurotrace tool. This mission, held from October 2 to October 11, 2024, was supported by the Pan-African Statistics Programme II Service Contract (PAS II SC) funded by the European Union.
During this period, ANSADE staff received comprehensive training on using Eurotrace SQL, a tool essential for managing and analyzing trade data. The technical assistance addressed key challenges such as data import errors, algorithm selection, and database upgrades. Key outcomes of the mission include an improved and up-to-date database accessible from ANSADE’s intranet.
"Through this mission, our team has not only gained valuable hands-on experience with real datasets but, moreover, overcome long-standing technical challenges. We are now better equipped to deliver accurate and timely trade statistics,” said Mr Elymane Jedou, Director of Economic Statistics at ANSADE.
The mission was led by a Senior International Expert, PAS II SC consultant, who worked closely with the ANSADE team to resolve complex data issues and provide training on best practices for database management.
This collaboration represents a significant advancement in Mauritania's efforts to strengthen its trade statistics. It participates in the PAS II SC’s quest for enhancing the production and dissemination of reliable trade statistics across Africa.
