Upcoming Meetings of STATAFRIC to Advance the Implementation of SHaSA-II
A series of key statutory meetings are scheduled for late 2025 to review progress and steer the implementation of the Second Strategy for the Harmonisation of Statistics in Africa (SHaSA-II). This includes the 7th session of the SHaSA 2 Executive Committee (EC) meeting, the 20th session of the African Statistical Coordination Committee (ASCC) meeting, and the 19th session of the Committee of Directors General of National Statistics Offices (CoDGs) meeting of the African Union Member States.
The 19th CoDGs will be held under the 2025 AU Theme: “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations”. The session will focus on producing sound statistics to guide decision-makers in building resilient justice systems and will discuss the SHaSA 2 Mid-Term Report, the status of the signing, the ratification African Charter on Statistics, and the establishment of STATAFRIC's new governance board.
Meeting Schedule :
- 7th SHaSA 2 Executive Committee (EC) Meeting: 26 – 29 November 2025, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at African Union Headquarters.
Objective: To assess the implementation of SHaSA 2 at all levels and issue recommendations.
- 20th African Statistical Coordination Committee (ASCC) Meeting: 1 – 2 December 2025, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at African Union Headquarters.
- 19th Committee of Directors General of National Statistics Offices (CoDGs) Meeting: 3 – 5 December 2025, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at African Union Headquarters.
- Side Events (1–2 December 2025, AU Headquarters – Addis Ababa): Governance, Peace & Security Statistics, African Migration Data Network, Migration Statistics Steering Committee Meeting, and ECA Hybrid Side Event.
The outcomes of the EC and ASCC meetings will be presented to the CoDGs for consideration and adoption.
Consolidated Outcomes from the 2025 Specialised Technical Groups (STGs)
Throughout the year, the 18 Specialised Technical Groups (STGs) and their subgroups met to address critical statistical domains. Their work forms the technical foundation for the upcoming high-level meetings.
In addition, 13 STGs successfully established bureaus with five-year mandates, adopted action plans for 2025–2026, and produced minimum sets of priority indicators aligned with both Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
