During the 7th Executive Committee Meeting of the Second Strategy for the Harmonization of Statistics in Africa (SHaSA II), held from 26–28 November 2025 at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, STATAFRIC officially launched the Specialized Technical Groups (STGs) collaboration platform. The launch was accompanied by a live walkthrough presentation to introduce national SHaSA 2 coordinators to the platform’s features and functionality.
In response to feedback from STG members, dedicated engagement platforms were developed for the 18 Specialized Technical Groups under SHaSA using SharePoint. The main aim of the platform is to facilitate collaboration, knowledge exchange, and monitoring of action plan implementation. These platforms are designed to:
- Address communication gaps among STG members
- Strengthening collaboration among representatives from member states National Statistical Offices (NSOs)
- Facilitate the tracking of progress on harmonization action plans and the development of the minimum set of indicators.
The first collaboration site launched was for STG 4 (AGNA) during a virtual meeting held on 30 June 2025. This was followed by soft launches of the STG 2, STG 9, and STG 13 collaboration sites.
These collaboration platforms support the mandate of the STGs to prepare and implement sectoral action plans for statistical harmonization within their respective thematic areas. Through the platforms, STGs members will continue working on the action plans and minimum set of indicators developed during face-to-face meetings. STATAFRIC, with the support of Pan-African Organizations, will continue to assist African countries in implementing these thematic-specific action plans and indicators.
