A strategic review to advance official statistics in Equatorial Guinea. The African Union Institute for Statistics (STATAFRIC) has published the Peer Review Report of the National Statistical System (NSS) of Equatorial Guinea, conducted from 8 to 12 September 2025 under the Second Pan-African Statistics Programme (PAS II), funded by the European Union.

The Peer Review mechanism supports African Union Member States in strengthening the governance, coordination, quality and dissemination of official statistics, in alignment with the African Charter on Statistics, the Strategy for the Harmonisation of Statistics in Africa (SHaSA 2) and the aspirations of Agenda 2063.

Reforms underway are delivering tangible progress

Led by senior statisticians from Cameroon and Benin, the mission assessed the NSS across five key dimensions:

  1. Institutional environment
  2. Organisation and coordination
  3. Quality of statistics
  4. Statistical processes and production
  5. Dissemination, data access and data security

A total of 36 recommendations were issued to further strengthen the system and accelerate recent progress.

  • A strengthened role for INEGE in statistical governance and harmonisation
  • Increased use of digital data collection methods (CAPI)
  • Adoption of a National Data Quality Assurance Framework (CNAQ), pending official approval
